Who Am I?

Well, that is a question that many people have been asking for centuries. But to keep it simple;

Hello, my name is Amanda Shipley, nice to meet you!

I was born in the Maternity Ward of St. Anthony's April 28, 1998 at precisely 8:55 pm.

I grew up with a loving mother (Rebecca), a doting father (Adam), and a little creature that removed my status as an only child (sister; Hazel). I am a St. Louis native, born and raised. As a young child I was very adventurous and was a great lover of animals. My childhood role model/hero was none other than the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.

I spent two years at Notre Dame preschool before starting my primary career at Simpson Elementary in the Fox C-6 district. When I reached the secondary school level, I filtered into Fox Middle School, followed by Fox Senior High School where eventually I graduated with Cum Laude honors.

How did I get into Massage Therapy?

I first fell in love with Massage when I was in 6th grade. It was Christmas break and I was on the family laptop surfing Youtube. On the trending page I saw a video titled, "Crazy Chinese Chiropractics." It was a 49 second video. Otherwise bored, I shrugged and thought, eh why not. So I clicked and watched. Honestly, those 49 seconds were not wasted because what happened next would change my whole world view.

Off to the side, where the suggested videos are, was a video titled something along the lines of "Relaxing, Must Watch, ASMR" and I clicked.

The video was mesmerizing. The music was light and fluttery and soft. The lighting was perfect, the room soft with shadows. And the way his hands moved. Up and down, left to right. Kneading, pushing, pulling, elbows, knuckles.

I was hooked.

There was something within me that whispered: This is right. This is you. Keep watching and learn

In high school I was on the Color Guard. And as with any sport, we had aches and pains. Then, one day before practice I offered to rub the back of one of my team mates. After almost 4 years of watching massage videos on Youtube, I felt like I knew what I was doing and I wanted to try what I'd learned on a real person.

Turns out, from their reaction, I was pretty good.

The next 4 years I used my friends as guinea pigs and practiced on them. Trying out every technique I had seen in the videos or had read about online.

Flash forward 2 more years and I graduated as an "A" student from STL MED TECH in the spring of 2018, ready to get to work.
